POVA IN THE NEWS: Nashville Noise - Celebrate Nashville Nonprofit Poverty and the Arts with Art Show, Beer

Nashville nonprofit, Poverty and the Arts, is turning three! They’re celebrating their big day with an art show — and free beer.

The Poverty and the Arts birthday party happens this Thursday night (July 20) at The Reserve Venue in West Nashville. It begins at 5PM and they’ll have an art show and testimonies by actual artists overcoming homelessness. The four-hour party is a come and go as you please event that will serve complimentary Fat Bottom Brews (we recommend the Ruby). The Nashville brewery and our pals, Nashville the Beautiful, are hosting the soiree.

According to their website, Poverty and the Arts is “a social enterprise nonprofit that provides supplies, studio space, training and a marketplace for artists overcoming homelessness to create and sell artwork, as well as gain valuable entrepreneurial and social skills which helps them earn creative income, access higher-waged employment, increase their housing stability, and build the necessary security nets to remain out of homelessness.”

The nonprofit has their own gallery in their studio space where they display their artists’ work. The artists in their collective then make a 60% commission on original work and 25% of merchandise sold with their designs. You can learn more about their artists here.

There are also multiple opportunities to volunteer with the unique nonprofit. On Aug. 27, they’ll hold a volunteer orientation for anyone interested in pitching in and making a difference. You can also make donations on their website.

If you’re free on Thursday night, stop by the Poverty and the Arts birthday party. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn more about the nonprofit and hear from their artists.
