2015 Writer’s Choice: Poverty and the Arts

Over the past year, Poverty & the Arts, which helps homeless people through creative outlets and community support, has really ramped up its efforts. The nonprofit bought a beautiful fixer-upper on Third Avenue South to use as a gallery and study space. It built a full board. Artists working with POVA also now earn 75 percent from the sale of their original artwork, and they’re also given opportunities to further their art education and learn business skills.
