Meet Starcasm

Starcasm joined our Artist Collective in summer 2024. She is a self-taught artist from Raleigh, NC, whose talent developed as a young misfit. Despite adversities at home and in school, she found acceptance among other queer and neurodivergent peers. Her passion for art led to her attending Longleaf School of The Arts. As a Teen Arts Council member at The North Carolina Museum of Art, Starcasm worked alongside professionals and her peers to create opportunities within her community. During those years she gained a deep appreciation for art history, portraiture and an interest in oil based mediums.

Now, as a member of Daybreak Arts, Starcasm is eager to cultivate a strong network of supporters. She is dedicated to fostering mutual support among artists, expanding her audience, and advocating for meaningful social change. Committed to her growth, she is striving towards progressing from a Sunday painter to an emerging artist. Grateful for the opportunities provided by Daybreak Arts, she looks forward to achieving many firsts in her career. Given her journey, Starcasm takes great pride in being part of this community and is excited to actualize dreams.

The artistic vision Starcasm has is a bold call for radical empathy. Channeling the rebellious spirit of her youth, she employs allegories and folklore to craft characters that mirror the complexities of individual experiences. By deconstructing societal norms and systemic barriers, she confronts the stigmatization of marginalized groups. Through her art, Starcasm advocates for recognizing the full spectrum of human experience, highlighting both profound challenges and inherent dignity. Her art invokes dialogue and reflection, promoting a more inclusive and compassionate world that honors the complexities of every individual.

Starcasm uses oil paint to explore the subtleties of light and shadow in her portraitures and art. Her unique art is precise yet expressive, creating layers of depth and character in every face they paint.
