Poverty and the Arts Exhibit at Casa Azafran

Poverty & the Arts is a social-enterprise nonprofit that collaborates with people experiencing homelessness to create and market art; it started as a scrappy underdog just four years ago. The organization began with two artists and has now worked with 20, nine of whom have moved into housing while working with Poverty & the Arts. The artists’ work, which includes everything from jewelry to mixed-media pieces and painting, will be on display at the Casa Azafrán Gallery through Jan. 8, with an opening reception scheduled for Oct. 4. At the opening, you’ll hear from the artists themselves and get an opportunity to talk with them about their work. The artists will receive 60 percent of the proceeds from sales, and the rest goes back into programming for Poverty & the Arts.
