2020

Throughout 2020, I often felt as if the creative well was empty, while meanwhile LIFE was spilling over, and I needed to kind of get to the center in order to create. When I did, it was most often a deeply personal experience, in particular the pieces I chose to fall within one of 3 collections; “Pretend Carnival in Covid Quarantine,” “Hopeful Choices,” and this.

With this mish mosh group, I didn’t immediately see it as a series. I just wanted to create faith-based, spiritual, joy filled &/ or colorful fun pieces, or, just whatever hit me, sometimes work representing the very real darkness and uncertainty we all faced.

So, I ended up lumping most of said pieces all together in this, the third series of 2020, “LIFE.”

If the collection seems all mixed up and disconnected; good, bad, in between and way off in left field, well, that’s life isn’t it? That’s surely how life was in Nashville TN in 2020, going from a major tornado outbreak ….. to Covid ….. to grocery and toilet paper hoarding and shortages ….. to protests ….. to an emotional election ….. to a bombing downtown on Christmas morning.

But throughout 2020, joy was still able to lift sorrow, courage stood in the face of fear, and we all got resourceful and creative when boredom forced us to. And unfortunately there’s nothing like massive death on a large scale to make most of the rest of us more appreciative of ….. ….. …..well yeah, LIFE.

So here’s to 2021 and here’s to …… LIFE!
