A New Perspective On Nature
by Artists With Lived Experiences of Homelessness
Greenspace / No Space - A Daybreak Exhibition Exploring Nature & Displacement
August 1–16, 2025 | Gallery 64 | Arcade Arts, Downtown Nashville
Opening Reception: Saturday, Aug 9 | 6–9 PM during the Second Saturday Art Crawl
Following the success of the July Gallery Run, Daybreak Arts is proud to unveil a new exhibition for August as part of the ongoing Art Between the Avenues summer series, on view from August 1–16 in Gallery 64 at Arcade Arts.
Greenspace / No Space is a group exhibition featuring eight Daybreak artists, and invites viewers to reimagine their connection to nature through the lens of artists who have experienced homelessness. In urban landscapes like Downtown Nashville, "greenspace" is often used to signal progress, beauty, and care for the environment. But this exhibition challenges viewers to ask: who are these spaces truly for? While parks, gardens, and revitalized green areas may offer peace and leisure to some, for others—especially people experiencing homelessness—they can represent exclusion, surveillance, or even displacement.
In Greenspace / No Space Daybreak artists explore their personal and collective relationships with nature in the context of the city. Some works celebrate nature’s beauty and healing potential, offering dreamlike landscapes and moments of stillness. Others challenge viewers to see nature as a place of exposure, unpredictability, and survival for those with nowhere else to go.
Featuring works by A.M. Hassan, Bandy, Beth Gunn, Blue, Edwin Lockridge, Kateri, Sam Fulks, and Sidney Sparkle, the show spans painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and mixed media. Greenspace / No Space reveals how our access to nature—and our relationship with it—is shaped by our circumstances. It invites viewers to consider the dualities: Nature as both healer and threat. Set against the backdrop of a city that often separates us from the land, Greenspace / No Space reminds us that nature is not distant. It’s around us, within us, and experienced differently by everyone.
The exhibition runs August 1–16, 2025, with a public reception on Saturday, August 9, from 6–9 PM during Downtown Nashville’s Second Saturday Art Crawl. Admission is free and open to the public.
Attendees are encouraged to bring donations from Open Table Nashville’s Summer Supply List for a chance to win a Daybreak T-shirt.
