Statement of Art Advocacy & Access

Art is for everyone.

Daybreak Arts believes access to creativity, culture, and artistic expression is essential to a thriving community—not a privilege reserved for those with financial resources, stable housing, formal training, or traditional access to the arts. We advocate for greater access to creative spaces, resources, experiences, and opportunities for people who have historically been excluded from the arts. We believe artists should have the opportunity to develop their work, share their voices, build meaningful connections, and be compensated for their contributions.

Our work centers seniors and adults experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity while also creating opportunities for youth and the broader community. We meet people where they are, remove barriers to participation, and create environments where individuals can engage with creativity on their own terms—whether they are creating for themselves, developing their practice, sharing their work, pursuing income, or contributing as a leader.

We also believe access works in both directions. Communities benefit when more people have the opportunity to experience, participate in, and contribute to the arts. When artists who are often overlooked are given space and visibility, they broaden our understanding of who artists are, whose voices matter, and what creative contribution can look like.

Daybreak Arts advocates for a creative culture where access leads to participation, participation leads to opportunity, and artists are recognized for their creativity, potential, and contributions—not defined by the circumstances they have experienced.
