Acrylic Painting at Shwab Art Club

Our second day of Shwab Art Club was a success! Coming back the week after spring break, our students jumped right in yesterday with Daybreak teaching artist A.M. Hassan, exploring color mixing and acrylic painting!

A.M. Hassan introduced abstract art, leading a discussion on colors, lines, shapes, and how abstract work can express emotions. The students also learned new techniques for acrylic painting, using sponges, palette knives, and flat and round brushes to create different types of strokes. When it was time to create, students had the choice to make an abstract piece based on how they were feeling or to focus on their favorite color—and we saw a great mix of both!

At the end of today’s class, some of the students shared what they had been working on in their sketchbooks, and it was impressive to see their skills, especially their shading! All of the artwork that the students create throughout the semester will have the opportunity to be exhibited in the student art show in May if they choose to select that piece. We can’t wait to see what these talented student create next week!
