Daybreak Arts introduces Shwab Art Club—a Gigi’s Creative Corner program

On Thursday, March 5th, we kicked off the Spring 2026 pilot of Shwab Art Club with nine excited 3rd grade students at Shwab Elementary on Dickerson Pike! The Shwab Art Club is a pilot project in Daybreak Arts’ new youth program Gigi’s Creative Corner.

The Shwab Art Club will meet weekly and lead up to many of the students’ first art exhibition in May 2026, where they’ll have the chance to share their work with their school community and families.

During the first day of the Shwab Art Club, students introduced themselves by creating symbol-based name tags that reflect who they are, first sketching ideas in their brand new art journals before creating their final designs! The students were thrilled to receive their very own sketchbooks, which they will take home over spring break and throughout the semester to keep creating! We wrapped up by sharing and reflecting on the symbols we drew. It was a great way to start our creative journey together. When we return after the break, we’ll dive into painting and color exploration!

A huge thank you to our incredible Spring 2026 pilot leaders:

  • Staff member, Lauren

  • Volunteer, Kelly

  • Daybreak Teaching Artist, A.M. Hassan

We are so grateful for their leadership and support in making this program possible. We can’t wait to see how these young artists grow over the next few months! This pilot art club is generously sponsored by Rethink Community and in partnership with PENCIL.
